Polystichum munitum – Western Sword Fern (Giant Holly Fern)
A majestic and long-lived California native fern, Polystichum munitum forms bold, clumping rosettes of shiny dark green leathery fronds with toothed edges that remain evergreen year-round. Native from Alaska to Montana and California, it thrives in shaded woodland settings, along house walls, and in borders and containers. Deer resistant and somewhat gopher resistant, it also tolerates boggy conditions and makes an excellent cut foliage plant.
