Salvia leucophylla 'Point Sal' – Purple Sage
Point Sal is a spreading, low-growing selection of purple sage from Point Sal on the Santa Barbara County coast — the best large-scale groundcover form of this outstanding native sage. Purple sage forms a spreading mat of intensely silver, woolly, aromatic leaves — one of the most silvery of all California sages — with lavender-purple flower spikes in spring that are exceptional for native bees and hummingbirds. Point Sal spreads aggressively to cover large areas and provides outstanding slope stabilization and erosion control on hot, dry sites.
Key Features:
- Outstanding large-scale groundcover — aggressive spreading habit for slopes
- Intensely silver woolly leaves — most silvery of all California sages
- Lavender-purple spring flowers — excellent native bee and hummingbird plant
- Point Sal, Santa Barbara coast provenance — superior coastal and inland performance
- Extreme drought tolerance; deer resistant; fire retardant
