Salvia apiana – White Sage
White sage is one of the most important and sacred plants in Native California culture — used for purification, healing, and ceremony by tribes throughout Southern California for thousands of years. It is also one of the most strikingly beautiful native plants: a large shrub of brilliant, intensely aromatic, silver-white woolly leaves that glow in the sun, with tall, wand-like flower stalks bearing white to pale lavender flowers that are outstanding for native bees. White sage is under significant collection pressure from wild populations; growing it from nursery stock helps conserve wild plants.
