Raoulia australis – Scabweed

A true miniaturist's gem, Raoulia australis forms an incredibly dense, flat mat of tiny silver-gray leaves that hugs the ground like a living carpet. In spring, it produces minute pale yellow flowers that are almost hidden within the foliage, adding a subtle seasonal interest. Native to New Zealand, this alpine groundcover is prized for its extraordinary texture and its ability to fill crevices in rock gardens, troughs, and stepping stone paths. Drought tolerant and virtually maintenance-free once established.

Key Features:

  • Perennial; extremely low flat mat-forming habit
  • Drought tolerant once established
  • Pale yellow flowers; spring
  • Silvery gray foliage; striking texture year-round
  • Excellent for rock gardens, troughs, alpine plantings, and crevice gardens
  • New Zealand native
