Muhlenbergia dubia – Pine Muhly
Native to Texas, New Mexico, and Mexico, Pine Muhly is an attractive evergreen perennial grass that forms finely textured clumps of cylindrical green blades. From August through November, purplish-gray flower spikes rise above the foliage to about 3.5 feet, gradually fading to cream as they age. Its airy texture adds lovely movement to sunny borders and low-water plantings. Deer resistant and tolerant of heat and drought, this butterfly-attracting grass thrives in sun with moderate to dry watering conditions.
