Symphytum officinale – Comfrey
Native to Europe, this vigorous herbaceous perennial brings lush texture to the garden with long, oval, fuzzy leaves and lovely purple, bell-shaped flowers from May through September. Also known as knitbone or boneset, comfrey makes an attractive addition to informal borders and pollinator gardens. Grow it in sun to partial shade with regular water, allowing room for its spreading growth. Comfrey has a history of topical use for skin irritations, cuts, sprains, and swelling, but it should not be taken internally: even small doses over time can be harmful.
