Salvia sonomensis – Creeping Sage
Creeping Sage is a beautiful California native groundcover sage native to the woodlands, chaparral margins, and rocky slopes of the Coast Ranges and Sierra Nevada foothills. Salvia sonomensis spreads vigorously by trailing stems to form a dense, low, weed-suppressing mat of softly aromatic gray-green foliage, topped with attractive lavender-blue flower spikes in spring that are excellent for native bees and butterflies. One of the most versatile and widely adaptable California native groundcovers, it performs well in full sun to part shade and is outstanding for slopes, erosion control, and underplanting oaks and other native trees.
