Salvia darcyi – Red Mountain Sage
Native to the mountain slopes of Mexico, Red Mountain Sage is a bold, spreading perennial with aromatic foliage and brilliant red tubular flowers that draw hummingbirds and bees. Its summer-to-autumn display adds lovely late-season color to wildlife borders, cottage gardens, and naturalized plantings. Give this vigorous sage room to spread by runners and a sunny position with well-drained soil. Water regularly while establishing; established plants tolerate drought, although moderate irrigation supports flowering. Cut old stems back in late winter, and keep the winter root zone well drained.
