Rubus pentalobus – Creeping Raspberry

Rubus pentalobus – Creeping Raspberry

Rubus pentalobus, also known as R. calycinoides and R. fockeanus, is an attractive evergreen shrub that forms a dense, low carpet, rooting as it grows. Reaching about 4 inches tall and spreading approximately 1 foot per year, this creeping raspberry is excellent for borders, rock gardens, slopes, and ground cover. White summer flowers attract butterflies and are followed by small, edible salmon-red berries. Grow it in sun or shade with moderate to dry watering conditions. It tolerates drought, deer, clay soil, and coastal conditions and is somewhat gopher resistant.
