Leymus triticoides 'Lagunita' – Creeping Wild Rye / Lagunita Wild Rye
Discovered by renowned grass expert John Greenlee on a ranch near the Laguna River in Santa Cruz County, 'Lagunita' is a standout California native selection of Creeping Wild Rye. This low-growing, mat-forming grass spreads via underground rhizomes to create a lush, rich-green groundcover that thrives along creeks and in seasonally wet soils. Its sterile seeds mean it spreads without becoming weedy, making it an excellent and well-behaved lawn substitute or erosion control solution for challenging sites. Evergreen, drought tolerant once established, and deer resistant — a true workhorse for the California native garden.
