Fragaria chiloensis – Beach Strawberry, Sand Strawberry

One of the wild parents of the modern garden strawberry, Fragaria chiloensis is a California native that grows along coastal North and South America. It forms a lush, compact mat of glossy green foliage, spreading readily by runners to create a beautiful, low-maintenance groundcover. Cheerful white blooms in spring and summer are followed by small red fruits, making it as productive as it is ornamental. An excellent lawn substitute for slopes, dunes, and coastal gardens.
