Ceanothus gloriosus 'Anchor Bay' – Point Reyes Wild Lilac

A tough and beautiful California native from the coastal bluffs of Point Reyes, 'Anchor Bay' is a dense, low-spreading groundcover shrub with dark green, holly-like leathery leaves that are toothed and slightly less palatable to deer than most ceanothus. In spring, clusters of lavender-blue flowers smother the plant, drawing butterflies and hummingbirds in abundance. Tolerates drought, fire, gophers, and coastal conditions — an outstanding choice for slopes, banks, and large-scale groundcover plantings.
