Antennaria rosea – Rosy Pussytoes
A charming California native perennial, rosy pussytoes brings soft silvery texture to rock gardens and dry, sunny borders. Found in mountain meadows, rocky slopes, and open woodlands across western North America, it forms dense mats of small, woolly gray leaves topped in spring by fluffy rosy-pink to white flower heads that resemble tiny kitten's paws. Its low, spreading habit is lovely tucked around rocks, while its flowers support bees and small butterflies and its foliage provides a larval host for butterflies, including the American lady. Give it well-drained soil and room for its stolons to spread into an attractive, drought-tolerant groundcover.
