Its medium-green foliage provides attractive texture beside water features and in pots, then can turn yellowish brown after the first frost. Small yellow-green to pale-brown flowers appear near the stem tips in early summer. This generally trouble-free rush tolerates deer, gophers, boggy conditions, and clay soil, making it an excellent practical choice for wet garden areas where many other ornamentals struggle.

Key Features:

Perennial rush; vertical, upright, outward-diverging growth

Narrow, soft, rounded medium-green stems

Foliage can turn yellowish brown after the first frost

Small yellow-green to pale-brown flowers near the stem tips in early summer

Deer and gopher tolerant

Tolerates boggy conditions and clay soil

Generally trouble-free with few pest or disease problems

Excellent for pots, water features, and moist garden settings

Growing Details:
Height: 15–24 inches | Spread: 18–36 inches over time
Exposure: Sun to partial shade | Water: Moist
Bloom time: Early summer | Bloom color: Yellow-green to pale brown
USDA Hardiness Zone: 4–11
